If you’ve read Spice and Wolf or heard of Isuna Hasekura, you probably don’t need to hear this from me.

But, for the general populace who haven’t heard of light novels, or visual novels for that matter, here’s my TL;DR call to action for you.

GO READ IT. GO GET IT.

Especially while it’s half off (50%!) on steam thanks to the year end christmas sales.

Now, really quickly here’s some of my thoughts on World End Economica: Episode 1. I’m not thinking too hard on this so the prose will suck.

It’s episodic. I think there’s 3. The third isn’t out yet but I bought the first two.

“Binged the first one last night. Steam says I have fourteen hours on it. It sure didn’t feel that long.”

Binged the first one last night. Steam says i have fourteen hours on it. It sure didn’t feel that long. This alone probably says something about the quality of the story.

It’s a visual novel. Not quite the conventional game. You have to READ. It comes with decent accompanying artwork and music, nothing super amazing to write home about.

Background artwork fitting for the scenes but just didn’t impress

Honestly though, even if it came without all the bells and whistles, of the music and artwork, and just came in a simple paperback book IN ENGLISH, I probably would still be raving over this.

The story’s that good.

Oh, did i forget to mention? The story’s set on the moon

In usual Isuna Hasekura style, economics plays a part here in driving the plot. The story is told from a teenage boy’s perspective who has a dream of making it big as a trader. Oh, did i forget to mention? The story’s set on the moon.

Also in usual Isuna Hasekura style, there aren’t a deluge of characters, but they’re well fleshed out, feel real and not utterly contrived.

What amazes me was the emotional ride it took me on through. But having read Spice and Wolf I’m not sure why I was surprised. I felt excitement from the small victories, and sucker-punched when tragedies occur.

Ever read a book that had you flipping the pages at 2am in the morning, unable to stop?

Ever read a book that had you flipping the pages at 2am in the morning, unable to stop? It’s been a long time since I’ve felt that. With World End Economica I felt that, I couldn’t stop. I had to know what happened next.

Here be dragons.

Here is an amazing story. World End Economica.

It’s only the first episode. I’ve only read the first episode. That’s something I’ll be correcting in the next few hours with Episode 2.

And if you couldn’t tell already, this has my seal of approval. Two thumbs up. I’d give more if I had more hands.
